Annual Circuit des Remparts
Known as ‘Monaco sans La Mer” Angoulême hosts this legendary and stylish classic car race. First staged in 1939, the Circuit des Remparts is a classic car race not to miss! It is held on the third weekend of each September where classic cars hurtle around the ancient, pretty cobbled twisting roads. A weekend of high octane, style and society.

There is a local weekly food markets at Ruffec and Mansle. Discover the specialist growers for strawberries near St Angeau and onions & garlic from Ligne.
La Charente area is famous for its weekend bric-a-bracs. Forage for vintage typewriters, embroidered hankerchiefs

Le Vallée des Singes
La Vallée des Singes founded in 1998, offers a full immersion into the fascinating world of primates. This wildlife park is 100% different; there are no cages, no fences but 450 monkeys freely living on a wide area of 22 hectares. The International Comic Strip Festival in Angoulême
Created in January 1974 this fun festival is also a highly respected event showcasing promising young talent in the cartoon world welcoming nearly 6000 professionals from all over the world, and 220,000 visitors each year, to more than 20 different venues across Angoulême. Verteuil-sur-Charente
Stroll along the La Charente river which weaves its way around the village. Buy your baguette from the bakery and sip your coffee outside the café. Four restaurants, two bars, and a magnificent château make this a lovely place to visit.
The Château de Verteuil, which has belonged to the La Rochefoucauld family for over a thousand years, is not available for visits but it gives a lovely backdrop to the village. Try La Porte Bleue for lunch and La Sénéchalerie concert bar & restaurant for panoramic views of the chateau and village.

Mansle-les-Fontaines
7 minutes from Le Cerisier, this pretty town has a canoeing centre along La Charente; hire out a kayak and discover the waterways -for all ages. Have a glass at Chez Riffaud -concerts, bar, lunch time restaurant or dine overlooking the river at the Hotel beau Rivage. SuperU and a Friday morning market for your food shopping.


Marais-Poitevin
Le Marais Poitevin regional natural park is a few kilometers from the city ​​of Niort and 1h15 from Le Cerisier. Three types of landscapes: the wet marsh, parched swamp and sea ​​marsh and a real haven of lush green landscapes, peaceful canals and abundant flora and fauna. Visitors can explore its many walking trails on a bike or by punt.

Ile d'Oléron
Located off the coast of Charente-Maritime, the largest French island, the Ile d'Oléron, has been connected to the mainland by a nearly 3-km bridge since June 1966.
The island's only fishing port, "La Cotinière," has an early morning fish auction which offers an impressive spectacle, not to be missed.
